On The Estate

Orchard Farm Estate offers 100 acres of beautiful and secluded land, rich in wildlife and blessed with breathtaking views. Access to the farm is available to all our guests via private paths through fields, woods and adjoining the west Beck river.   Challenge yourself to get up early to watch the roe deer and to see if you can add to the 80 species of birds that we have spotted around the farm, or rely upon our own bird book- see link to our Farmhouse Wildlife book- and simply laze in the garden with a glass of wine whilst watching our resident hunting barn owl!

The Coast

The North York Moors National Park’s spectacular heritage coastline runs for 26 miles from Redcar to Filey offering remarkable fishing villages to explore, wide sandy beaches, cliff top footpaths to walk, rugged cliffs with views to savor, hidden bays to discover and so much more.

Visit the charming Saltburn by the Sea, now with a stylish reputation and foodie scene, tread the cobbles of the winding alleys at Staithes before walking the high cliffs to Port Mulgrave, Kayak in picturesque Runswick Bay, walk the beautiful stretch of beach at Sandsend, climb the 199 steps of Whitby Abbey inspiration for Bram Stoker's Dracula, and discover the bolthole of Robin Hood's Bay.

Hill Walking

The Farmhouse is at the centre of some of the best walking in the North of England. Goathland and the North York Moors National Park are a walker’s paradise and there is no better way to experience the areas beauty.

The moors are truly un-spoilt, and offer both simple and challenging routes for all levels of fitness.  As well as the internationally known Lyke Wake Walk and the Coast to Coast, we are surrounded by mile upon mile of deserted moorland, woodland and coastal paths.  Walks such as Levisham Moor and the Hole of Horcum offer some of the finest scenery in the National Park and down off the hill the Esk Valley Walk covers 37 miles of one of the most beautiful valleys in England.

We can recommend routes that just happen to pass a nice country pub at lunchtime or alternatively, you could take the steam train from Goathland and walk back in time for dinner.
